Our town is a scenic village which hugs the coast of northern Queensland and offers a diverse range of activities for all. Within this unique shire, there are endless opportunities to explore and enjoy the remarkable and outstanding natural attractions. Cardwell has undergone a 34.5 M Dollar facelift, with a foreshore development completed . Comprising of a main highway upgrade with walkways along the beachfront, bbq areas, new play equipment, an amphitheatre, jetty plaza and rock wall, it is designed so that all can truly enjoy the view of magical Hinchinbrook Island and the crystal clear, blue waters of the tropics.
Cardwell is located approximately half way between Townsville & Cairns on the main north to south Bruce Highway (Highway 1) with many coaches passing through daily. It is easily accessible from the international and domestic air terminals at Cairns and Townsville.
Launch your boat into the sheltered waters of the Hinchinbrook Channel or venture seaward to either nearby islands such as Garden Island or to explore the Great Barrier Reef.
From Cardwell, branch out on self-drive trips to explore our Cardwell Forest Drive. On this drive you will see the Cardwell Lookout, Attie Creek and Falls, Dead Horse Creek and The Spa Pool. Mission Beach, Tully Gorge, Wallaman Falls (Australia's highest single drop waterfall) or the remote Blencoe Falls are all within easy reach for a day trip as well.
