Hinchinbrook Island camping
Thorsborne Trail
- remote area camping, on the east coast of Hinchinbrook, definitely restricted to backpacking. This 30 km (3-5 day) walking track follows superb tropical beaches & mountain streams & winds through rainforest, heath & mangroves. Drinking water should be carried, but can be replenished from any of the numerous fresh water streams along the trail. There are no facilities or supplies available on the trail and since fires are not permitted in the National Park gas cookers must be carried.
The trail, extending from Ramsay Bay in the North to George Point in the South, can be walked in either direction. Hikers choosing a shorter walk can trek part way down the trail and return to Ramsay Bay. Excess luggage and personal items not needed on the island can be left safely with operators in Cardwell or Lucinda and relocated to the opposite end of the trail if required.
Boat Services: Ex Cardwell, depart 9 am returning to Cardwell at 5 pm. Allow boarding time.
Return fares: * North / South package:- $138 (for hikers doing the 32km through walk)
